ownCloud 4.5.6-018

01.29.2013, Download / Release Notes, ownCloud on Synology DS, by .

As some of you might have noticed today I finally finished the new ownCloud package, which fixes some issues with old IE (does anybody still use this?!) and other minor things.

It is already online, so have fun with it…

  1. Did you find any solution yet to mount the existing shares into the owncloud? I want to use owncloud and its clients to synchronize several shares across several computers.

Hi Eric! I have a question for you…

Is there a way to change in Sybology DSM the link (and just the link) that open OwnCloud and how to do that? Indeed, I want to change the default „“ by „“ (it would be a long story to tell you why).

I think that it could be simple but I need your help to understand how.

    Thanks a lot!

    • I haven’t tried linking to a subdomain, yet.
But I’m quite sure there is some way to do it.
The file to edit is called „config“ and placed in /volumeX/@appstore/owncloud
I will try this when I’m at home and leave a short answer..

        Hi again!

Well, if you succeed and find a method, I will be please to know it :-)In the meantime, I’ll try to do the same with phpMyAdmin…

    • OK, the only method I know by now is editing the config file of the package. This means you will have to edit it every time there is an update, because it gets overwritten.

      Via ssh go to
edit the config file in line 10 to:

      „url“: „“,

Note that this is now a static link that will always point at this direction. If you access your DS from outside you have to create a public adress (e.g. via dyndns) and change the link to this direction. Otherwise it won’t work outside your LAN.

If you want to know more about the config file read page 14 of the developer guide here.

        Hi Eric!

Well, I already linked owncloud to a subdomain. Please, have a try: . 😉

The only thing I want is to change the link in DSM (and it don’t bother me to repeat the operation after every update). Maybe it could be a future option of your package?

Anyway, I’m not an expert of SSH command. When I tried to reach /volume1/@appstore/owncloud/oc-dsmlink, putty told me „not found“. Maybe I’m wrong. But I will try again until I succeed cause it feels better that way to configure Owncloud with a subdomain (more „logic“, in a „webmastering“ sense).

Well, if you have any info witch could help me, please tell me!

Thanks a lot, by the way, for your great work!

  3. Hi Eric,

Only found out about installing OwnCloud on the Synology DS recently and have been reading the documentation on this site plus the OwnCloud PDF installation docs.

    Within those docs I noticed a section regarding WebDAV as follows;

You don’t need any WebDAV support of your webserver (i.e. apache’s mod_webdav) to access your ownCloud data via WebDAV, ownCloud has aWebDAV server built in.
In fact, you shouldmake sure that any built-in WebDAV module of
your webserver is disabled (at least for the ownCloud directory), as it can interfere with ownCloud’s built-in WebDAV support.

I have WebDAV enabled on my DS, so how would I go about disabling it for the OwnCloud directory?
It isn’t mentioned here at all, so is this not necessary to do on the DS?

Hoping for some clarification soon, so I can try this out.

    Many thanks,

    • I haven’t encountered any issues using the build-in Webdav (with DS File app) and owncloud simultaneously.
Make sure you are using the right urls
      webdav://Diskstation-Adress/owncloud/files/webdav.php for owncloud and
      http://Diskstation-Adress:5005 in DS-File App

  4. An fascinating dialogue is worth comment. I feel that you must
write more on this subject, it may not be a taboo topic however typically persons are not sufficient to
speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers

  5. Howdy! Quick question that’s completely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My site looks weird when viewing from my iphone. I’m trying to find a
template or plugin that might be able to correct this issue.

If you have any recommendations, please share. Appreciate it!

  9. Hey just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The
words in your content seem to be running off the screen in Opera.
I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with browser compatibility but I thought I’d
post to let you know. The design look great though!

Hope you get the problem solved soon. Thanks
